Rhinoplasty by Del Vecchio in New York, NY

Cosmetic nose surgery (rhinoplasty) is an aesthetic procedure performed to improve the shape and size of the nose.

In addition, rhinoplasty can help correct nose functionality in some cases.

Rhinoplasty changes the shape and the appearance of one’s nose.  Often, the nose has too large a hump on side view and the tip is not defined enough. This usually requires some changes to the underlying cartilage of the nose through sculpting and reshaping.

It is extremely important to choose a surgeon who understands and is familiar with nasal aesthetics, and a surgeon who can listen to patients’ wants and needs and translate this into real results. State of the art computerized 3D imaging is used on all our rhinoplasty patients to make sure we are communicating goals and are in sync with our rhinoplasty patients.

We also provide virtual consultation for patients in the selection process for a rhinoplasty surgeon, knowing that many patients live far away.

Rhinoplasty Ideal Candidates

Both women and men are candidates for rhinoplasty. If you're displeased with the overall look of your nose and have specific concerns you wish to enhance or repair, this surgery may be a great option. It is important that realistic expectations are discussed as your appearance will be changed. In addition, facial maturity should also be complete. This factor will be discussed during your consultation, especially for individuals under 21.

Rhinoplasty Surgical Technique

Cosmetic nose surgery is performed with the patient under IV sedation or general anesthesia and is considered an outpatient surgical procedure. Rhinoplasty has varying surgical techniques, depending on the specific patient case. Dr. Del Vecchio performs nose surgery with either a closed approach or an open method. The goal during surgery is to remove excess tissue and cartilage or to improve and add cartilage if needed for reshaping. The nose is repositioned while the skin is reformed and draped over the newly enhanced framework. Sutures are placed either inside the nose or in the natural external crease.

What to Expect from a Rhinoplasty

After your nose surgery, you will be monitored closely in the recovery room and then be released to heal at home. The area around the nose will be very swollen and bruised for a week or so. In most cases, there is bruising under the eyes as well. Cold compresses and prescription medication can help with these effects. Your post-operative appointment with Dr. Del Vecchio will take place within a day or so following surgery to check your healing process. On average, it takes about 2 – 4 weeks to heal from rhinoplasty. During this process, strenuous activity or exercise should be avoided.

Rhinoplasty FAQs

How much does rhinoplasty cost?

The cost of nose reshaping surgery varies based on the technique used and the complexity of the procedure. Before estimating costs, Dr. Del Vecchio will listen to your needs and goals to help create your custom treatment plan. Once this is done, he can go over costs for the facility, anesthesia, and more. To get your best results, it's better to focus on choosing an experienced plastic surgeon, like Dr. Del Vecchio, instead of the cheapest cost. To help make your surgery easy to afford, Uptown Body Contouring accepts many payment methods and we can help you find low-interest financing.

What about ethnic rhinoplasty?

Ethnic rhinoplasty focuses on improving the nose while still maintaining your cultural identity. This may be a consideration if you are Asian, African-American, or Middle Eastern. During your consultation with Dr. Del Vecchio, you can discuss what you like about your nose and what you would like to change. This will allow him to customize your treatment plan so you get your best results.

Will my insurance cover functional nose surgery?

While rhinoplasty to improve your appearance is not covered by insurance, if your nose reshaping surgery is considered medically necessary to improve your breathing, some of your costs may be covered by insurance. If you are considering using your insurance, please tell Dr. Del Vecchio during your consultation. Our office will help you submit the needed paperwork and information to your insurance to process your claim.

Can I combine nose surgery with other facial surgeries?

Many patients consider combining nose surgery with another procedure, like chin or cheek augmentation. Combining surgeries for a dramatic result can be discussed during your consultation with Dr. Del Vecchio. Once he understands your goals, he can help you decide what procedures should be in your treatment plan. Nose reshaping surgery can help your whole face look more balanced so you should wait to see your results before considering another procedure.

Are there nonsurgical options to change my nose?

To smooth lumps and bumps on your nose, a wrinkle filler (like Juvéderm) may be an option. An injectable filler can temporarily correct minor imperfections on your nose, which may help you decide to proceed with rhinoplasty. Nose surgery is better for long-lasting results, larger changes, and to improve the internal structure for better function. During your consultation, Dr. Del Vecchio will let you know if you may be a candidate for nonsurgical nose reshaping.
